Chametz Sale Form 5785

Please fill out the information below by 11:30 AM, Friday, April 11
Thank you, and we wish you a chag kasher v'sameach -- a Happy and Kosher Passover!

During Passover, it is technically forbidden to have any chametz, or leaven, in our possession. Because we cannot finish it all, and it is improper to destroy usable food, the rabbis provided for a symbolic sale of all chametz to a non-Jew who then “sells” it back to us after Pesach. The chametz is then no longer “in our possession” during the holiday. Technical ownership reverts back to us when the festival is over.

Deadline to complete sale of chametz through Shaare Torah: Friday, April 11 at 11:30 AM

Chametz will be sold as of 11:30 AM on Friday, April 11th. (Finish eating Chametz no later than 11:00 AM the following day). Ownership of chametz will be restored by 8:50 PM on Sunday, April 20th.

I/We hereby authorize Rabbi Scott Hoffman to sell my/our chametz before Passover 5785 (Pesach 2025), according to Jewish law.

"All who are hungry, let them enter and eat. All who are in need, let them come and celebrate Pesach."  -From the Haggadah.

Help Shaare Torah help others. There is an ancient custom to collect funds before Pesach to help those in need. Please help us take on this important responsibility by making an optional donation to fulfill the mitzvah of "Ma'ot Hittim," feeding the hungry. Donations will be forwarded to “Mazon—the Jewish Response to Hunger” and other agencies providing Passover food or hunger relief.
